TOC Measurements on Leachate from Water Pipe Materials
Revisions to the Water Quality Control Standards in the Japanese Water Supply Act resulted in a partial revision of the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Ordinance that prescribes technical standards for water treatment facilities. This revision changed the index for the organic content of leachate from pipe materials in contact with the water from potassium permanganate consumption to total organic carbon (TOC). These measurements are used for measuring clean water and during the water treatment process. The standard value for TOC is max. 0.5 mg/L.
The TOC measurement on leachate from PVC pipe using a TOC-VCSH Total Organic Carbon Analyzer is introduced below.

Total Organic Carbon Analyzer (TOC)

A total organic carbon analyzer (TOC) measures the carbon content of organic substances in water. It is used in a variety of fields, including water quality management for tap water. It offers measurements of samples over an extremely wide range from 4 µg/L to 25,000 mg/L, permitting measurements from ultrapure water to highly contaminated water.
